In a ceremony that took place yesterday morning, McMurry University is now the proud host of the Barksdale Trophy!

As a longtime community partner of Dyess Air Force Base, McMurry was chosen as a community host of the Barksdale Trophy. McMurry is the first local university to host the award!

The Barksdale Trophy was presented to Dr. Harper today in the Furr Welcome Center. The trophy will be displayed throughout the month in the Welcome Center and will also be recognized at upcoming events such as McMurry’s Annual Military Appreciation Football Game on September 22 and McMurry Homecoming October 11-13.

History of Barksdale Trophy:
The Barksdale Trophy is a community support award presented by the US Air Force Global Strike Command to the community that best supports its base. The award was instituted in 2017 and Abilene is the first community to win the award in Global Strike. Due to the overwhelming support by McMurry and others in the community, Abilene was selected as the recipient of the award.

Pictured L-R are Dr. Sandra Harper, McMurry University President, Ssgt. Meghan Westcott, SrA Trevour Burnes, Dr. Rosemary Wallace, Director of McMurry's Military Program, and Mrs. Jackie Vesey, Dyess Education Services Officer.
