The Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) is going to be offline until
30 July due to an unexpected server error and the subsequent migration to a
Cloud configuration. Below is the guidance provided to us today from
AF/MAJCOM Voluntary Education Functional Managers:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------
Education Centers will process requests for Tuition Assistance (TA) as
follows:

1. For Course Start Dates between now and 30 July 2018: Collect all
pertinent information from the student, to include memo from supervisor
indicating approval of TA Request, and create Historical Record Correction
once the system is operable again.
- THIS WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED VIA THE TWO ATTACHED FORMS. THE 1227
NEEDS A WET SIGNATURE; THE TA WORKSHEET IS DIGITAL.
- STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT BOTH FORMS ELECTRONICALLY, COMPLETED AND
SIGNED, TO: 7fss.fsde@us.af.mil.

2. For Course Start Dates after 30 July 2018 but within 7-day window:
Create TA Request on behalf of the student. A memo from the supervisor is
not necessary as the TA Request will be routed through the supervisor.
NOTE: THIS IS FOR CLASSES THAT START AFTER 30 JULY BUT BEFORE 7
AUGUST.

Please ensure your Airmen are aware of the outage and remind them to contact
the Ed Center (VIA THE 1227 and TA WORKSHEET) before signing up for classes
as this could result in the Airman having to pay for the course(s).

Additionally, be advised:
The MilTA Central Office is working on a memo Ed Centers can give students
to provide their schools for course registration purposes if needed. We
will provide a copy of the memo as soon as it's available.

IT IS CRITICAL THAT EVERY STUDENT PURSUING TA VIA THIS METHOD REMAIN IN
CLOSE COMMUNICATION WITH THEIR SCHOOL TO ENSURE THEY ARE NOT PUTTING
THEMSELVES INTO A FINANCIAL BIND. Schools should be understanding during
this period as it is affecting every school that receives TA funding,
however, it is still the responsibility of the student to communicate with
the school.

Effective 13 April, the AF Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) database and the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS) will be unavailable for use during migration to a cloud server; full operations are expected to resume NLT 19 April 18.

To prepare, we make these recommendations:
- Airmen should submit all Tuition Assistance (TA) and Ed Degree Goals NLT noon on 12 April to allow our staff time to review/approve requests prior to system downtime.
- Airmen should plan ahead to complete all time-sensitive CDC and PME exams NLT 12 April to avoid busting suspenses until the system comes back online.

*NOTE - this does not affect WAPS testing.....also DLPT, AFCT, and ADLS special testing may still be accomplished during this period if necessary; email requests to 7fss.fsde@us.af.mil

Our team has measures in place to help with time-sensitive issues if absolutely necessary, but Airmen should be proactive to avoid delays with education progression.
